Don’t:
- Drink the night before. This will thin your blood, and may affect healing.

Aftercare
Aftercare Procedure
So the less you fuss over it the better, the main rules to keep in mind while healing your beautiful piece of art are:
- Keep it clean
- Let it breathe
- Keep it lightly moisturised
After your Appointment:
Leave the tattoo covering on for 4 hours, or for however long your artist recommends.
This is to give the tattoo time to reduce inflammation as well as ooze blood plasma (this is completely normal and to be expected).
The first wash:
After 4 hours have elapsed, remove the covering and thoroughly wash your tattoo with the palm of your hand under lukewarm water, using unscented soap.
Be sure to dab the tattoo dry with a clean towel after showering.
The following days:
The day after your appointment, the tattoo might have weeped slightly during the night. Just lightly wash the tattoo again, leaving the tattoo open and allowing it to breathe.
Only start lotioning the tattoo from the second morning, only applying an extremely thin layer to the tattooed area.
Only lotion the tattoo twice per day, unless extremely dry/flaky, then a third time is allowed. This is to stop you from over moisturizing the tattoo, as too much lotion may or may not result in more ink being pulled out of your tattoo.
Only lightly wash your tattoo every time you shower.
What can I use on my tattoo?
Following our aftercare procedure, we recommend water-based, unscented lotions such as:
- Aqueous cream.
- E45 Cream.
- Tattoo Balms (from tattoo brands only).
A scented lotion may cause a reaction with your healing tattoo. The skin will be extremely sensitive.
Oil-based creams/(e.g. vaseline) may cause excess amounts of ink to be drawn out of the tattoo during the healing process. Oil-based lotions will not allow the tattoo/skin to breathe and heal properly.
The Healing Process
The healing process can go through different phases.
Phase 1:
Your tattoo will be wrapped with a barrier product. This prevents dirt from getting into the tattoo.
It’s normal for the wrapped tattoo to ooze some plasma (clear to opaque). This may make your tattoo appear “smudged”.
Don’t be alarmed. This is normal. The plasma just needs to be washed off gently.
Phase 2:
After your first shower, give your tattoo exactly one day to dry out. This prevents the tattoo from being too wet. A wet tattoo poses an infection risk. After the first day of drying out the tattoo, start applying lotion to the tattoo. This will stop your skin from drying out too much.
The tattoo should start shedding from about day 4 of the healing process.
Do not pick your tattoo! It will heal at it’s own pace.
Phase 3:
Once your tattoo has completed the initial peel, it might still be dry. Continue lotioning your tattoo twice a day, until the skin is no longer dry. This can take up to two weeks post your appointment.
Can I exercise after my appointment?
No. Taketake at least four days off to give your tattoo the best chance at healing.
Exercise will twist and stretch the tattoo before it has healed properly.
Treat yourself and your beautiful art to a bit of rest and relaxation.
Can I get my tattoo wet?
No swimming or taking a bath for the next few weeks. The only time you can get your tattoo wet is when you are washing it in the shower. So please don’t bath, goto the beach or swim at all while your tattoo is still healing (If it’s still dry it’s still healing).
After your tattoo has gone through the initial healing process it may still be a bit sensitive to sunlight, this is because the skin is new, please put on sunblock whenever you’re going to be in the sun, for at least the first two months after your appointment.
